Summary
Given the persistently high incidence of facial trauma in people of all ages, there is a shortage of new prosthetic treatments for patients with such defects. The aim of this study was to improve the technology for manufacturing a hollow maxillary obturator prosthesis to increase the effectiveness of rehabilitation for patients with maxillary post-resection defects. Based on an analysis of similar obturator manufacturing methods, a new method for fabricating a thin-walled hollow maxillary obturator prosthesis was developed. The model developed by the authors exhibits increased congruence with the prosthetic bed and strength while maintaining the thinness of the structure. The model of the prosthesis created by the authors has an increased accuracy of the prosthesis compliance with the prosthetic bed and increased strength properties of the prosthesis while maintaining the thinness of the structure. During clinical trials of this model, researchers observed complete restoration of speech, swallowing and chewing functions in patients with the elimination of oroantral and / or oronasal communication, as well as aesthetic restoration of the appearance of the facial skeleton when replacing missing anatomical structures with prosthetic structures. In the invention developed by the authors, there is no suture connection of the obturator with the prosthesis base, accordingly, there is no decrease in strength properties, the prosthesis more accurately matches the prosthetic bed, good tightness is observed, speech phonation in patients is preserved and there is no nasal tone.
