Summary
Surgical interventions in the oral cavity are associated with the development of aseptic inflammation in the early postoperative period, which causes a local immune response. Despite a large number of studies on the rehabilitation of patients after dental operations, the possibility of using a combination of physiotherapeutic factors (kinesiotherapy and low-intensity infrared laser radiation) to enhance the local immune response and accelerate wound healing has not been previously considered.
Objective: to improve the rehabilitation of patients using a combined method of kinesiotaping and infrared laser radiation after dental surgery.
Material and methods. The study included 63 patients with symmetrical, equal-volume elective surgical procedures in the oral cavity. The patient groups were formed depending on the rehabilitation method: low-intensity infrared laser therapy, kinesiotaping, or a combined technique with the use of laser therapy and kinesiotaping. The levels of interleukin 1-beta and interleukin 6 in saliva before surgery, on the first, third and seventh days after surgery were evaluated. The rate of epithelialization of wounds was also assessed. Results and discussion: the data obtained allow us to conclude that the use of kinesiotaping and laser therapy (LILI) both in combination and in isolation has a beneficial effect on the course of the early postoperative period. These physiotherapeutic methods can enhance the body’s local immune response by increasing the secretion of interleukin 1-beta and interleukin 6, as well as accelerate the process of epithelialization of wounds in the oral cavity.
Results and discussion. Each patient was presented in two subgroups: one side (on which only standard medical therapy was performed) – control group; the other side (application of laser therapy, kinesio-taping and combined therapy of LILI + kinesio-taping on the background of standard medical therapy). The data on the level of interleukin 1-beta and interleukin-6 before the operation, on the 1st, 3rd and 7th days after the operation, as well as the data on wound epithelization on the 7th and 14th days after the operation were obtained.
Conclusion. The data obtained allow us to conclude that the use of kinesiotaping and laser therapy (LILI) both in combination and in isolation has a beneficial effect on the course of the early postoperative period. These physiotherapeutic methods can enhance the body’s local immune response by increasing the secretion of interleukin 1-beta and interleukin 6, as well as accelerate the process of epithelialization of wounds in the oral cavity.
