Summary
This study is devoted to studying the effectiveness of methods for preventing dental caries in children at the stages of orthodontic treatment based on the use of oral hygiene items and products. Two groups of twelve-year-old children were formed who were treated using a brace system. In order to study the dental status of children with dentoalveolar anomalies and deformities (DSAD), observation was carried out for 18 months. Children in the first group underwent oral sanitation, training in the standard method of brushing teeth using an Ortho toothbrush with V-shaped bristles for cleaning braces and an interdental brush with Oral-B brushes. Children of the second group underwent oral sanitation and a comprehensive prescription of oral hygiene items and products: an Ortho toothbrush with V-shaped bristles for cleaning teeth and braces, an interdental brush with brushes (Interdental set), and ROCS remineralizing gel. Dental status was assessed by indicators of the intensity of caries of permanent teeth – index KPU(z), KPU(p), using the hygiene index (IG) Fedorova-Volodkina (1971), papillary-marginal-alveolar index (RMA), modified by Parma (1960), complex periodontal index KPI (Leus P.A., 1988). The results obtained showed a deterioration in the dental status of children of the first group according to the index KPU, IG, RMA, KPI. Children in the second group had a more favorable state of the oral cavity, which allows us to recommend special items and oral hygiene products for use according to the proposed scheme in order to increase the effectiveness of the prevention of dental caries in patients with braces.
